When I arrived in Pai I never thought that I’d end up staying there for two weeks. As those two weeks were already half of my 30 day visa and I wanted to see much more of this country, I decided to get a visa extension. In this article I want to share my experience about how to extend your visa by 30 more days – a quite easy and quick process.
Where’s the immigration office?
You can see the location of the Pai immigration service in the map below. To be honest, it’s not what you expect to see when you think of an immigration office, so better look twice. Opening hours are Monday til Friday, from 8:30 am til 4 pm (No guarantee for that info).
Which documents do I need?
- Original passport plus the TM.6 departure card you receive once you enter Thailand
- Photo (4x6cm)
- Copy of the mainpage of your passport
- Copy of the entry stamp plus TM.6 departure card
- Address of your current guesthouse or hostel
- 1.900 Baht in cash
You can make the photocopies either in a copyshop in Pai (1-5 THB) or they can do it at the immigration office (10 Baht per copy). There are also shops where you can have the passport photo taken.
How does the process look like?
I went to the immigration office at 8.30 am, as I heard that it might get busy during the day. And I was lucky – I was the first one arriving in the morning. First I had to fill out a form with my personal data, the reason for extension and the place I’m staying. Very easy process – they also provide a template so you can’t really fail. After that the officer checks all your documents, charges 1.900 THB and there it is: Another 30 days and a new stamp in your passport.
All in all getting a visa extension in Pai is such an easy and quick process once you have all the required documents. As the immigration office is quite small I think the whole process is much faster than in Bangkok or Chiang Mai. I hope this article helped you with your visa extension and you can now enjoy 30 more days in this beautiful country!
